Senior Year, Journal # 2 //
Everytime I write a journal, it’s unfathomable to think how fast school is going by. It’s already the week before thanksgiving break, and I still remember the first day of school as if it just happened yesterday. It is actually been weird for me, everyone is complaining about senioritis and counting down the days until we graduate. At no point this year have I felt any “senioritis”. I love school, have always loved coming to school and it makes me sad to think that my days at LHS are limited, and my time with the people and community I have grown so close to will soon come to an end. While most seniors are experiencing senioritis, I am not! The tasks you have to complete Senior year are so different from any of the other 12 years. College applications have been a really long and repetitive process. I have applied to Fresno State, Cal Poly SLO, Stanford, UCLA, UC Berkeley and Pepperdine so far. I still plan on applying to USC as well.
The Stanford application was really hard and long! I chose to apply early action to get a quicker response on their decision, I am so anxious to find out whether I have been accepted or rejected. My gut feeling is that I will not get in because my SATs are well below the school’s average, but I do feel like I have put together a real solid resume and my essays are really well written and tell my story perfectly as well. I had to write a bunch of these mini essays for the Stanford application, they were really unsophisticated questions, but required sophisticated answers. In 50 words, I had to give my best response to questions like “What are your favorite books, and magazines?”, and “What is the biggest problem society faces?” After 7 short responses I had to write 3- 250 word essays on top of my personal statement. I am really hoping all the hard work not only on the application but also in school my entire career will pay off. Regardless I honestly believe I can maximize my experience at any of the schools I applied to! The hardest part has actually been declaring a major, I have thought about going into Medical school, but also Political Science. I don’t want a super-specific major incase my career choice changes, but I also want to figure out what I want to do and specialize my education around that - only time will tell.
In terms of my classes, I love, I love my Leadership class, I have AP Biology and Physics with Mr. Coles, AP English Lit with Mr. Britten, and Economics with Mr. Traeger. I also have Art but just for the first semester to fulfill a graduation requirement. I’ve discovered that I am not as bad as I thought at art, but I really don’t like it. It has been great though because I have been really challenged trying to earn a level 4 in something that comes extremely difficult to me! Senior Project has now become a reality, I know the date, and content I will be presenting on. My website is also complete and I am actually not too nervous about the exit interview, I think it should be easy since I am the expert talking about MY OWN life. I just want swimming to start because that means all of this “senior-related stuff” will be in the past!!
